Our tour this year will feature the National D-Day Memorial, a truly magnificent recognition of the valor and sacrifice of American soldiers who participated in the June 6, 1944 invasion of Europe. The loss of the “Bedford Boys” is widely thought to be the highest per capita sacrifice made by any American community on D-Day. For that reason, Congress warranted the Memorial’s establishment in Bedford, Virginia, recognizing Bedford as emblematic of American home-front communities. Lunch will be at the Old Liberty Train Station where the Bedford Boys departed for the front. Ed Lengel, our head of faculty, who has led numerous tours of D-Day battlefields will be on the bus to narrate the events of June 1944.
